Dear SAPCers:

The NCVC is collecting stories to support the argument against cutting rape prevention funds at the national level.

Jeanine Woodruff (now ED of VAASA, formerly of Ohio University and member of this list), adds a preface to the request below.

Claire

Sexual Assault Crisis Center Directors:

We have received information that there is a need to advocate at the
national level for Rape Prevention Funds not to receive major cuts.
Several groups are advocating nationally so that we will not lose
dollars at the state level, or in the best case scenario so that we will
actually convince the policy makers that more funds for prevention would
be a good thing.

The following is a request from The National Center for Victims of Crime
for examples of what would happen in communities if you lost the
prevention funds you now rely on to carry out your work, or things that
would be possible if you were to receive more funds.

This is your opportunity to send your story to the NCVC via their
website and assist them as they present information to Congress through
testimony, through a SAAM breifing on Capitol Hill on April 30th, and
through an informational piece to promote the value of more $$ for
prevention.

The National Center for Victims of Crime is collecting information on
our website about the Rape Prevention and Education Grant program for
use in several ways:

1. In testimony and letters to Congress about the need for full funding
of the grant program.  We need to illustrate the great work that is
being done and what folks would do if there was more money.

2. At the Sexual Assault Awareness Month briefing on Capitol Hill (by
the National Task Force to End Sexual & Domestic Violence Against Women
and Lifetime Television - next week, April 30).

3. In an informational piece for Congress about what's going on across
the country and why we need more prevention funding (in ADDITION to more

$$ for services!).

If you would like to contribute information, the form is on our website
at http://www.ncvc.org/policy/rpe/.  There is also a VOCA funding needs
form at
http://www.ncvc.org/policy/voca/questionnaire/

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.
Thanks!

Ilse Knecht
