The Planning Committee of the U.S. Department of Education's 17th Annual
National Meeting on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention in
Higher Education s pleased to announce that this year's meeting will be held
October 16-19, 2003 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Austin, Texas.

The National Meeting is the major national conference for examining issues
around alcohol, other drugs, and violence on college campuses and
surrounding communities.  The National Meeting includes keynote speakers,
workshops, skill-building sessions, showcases, town meetings, poster
presentations, exhibits, and the National Forum for Senior Administrators.

Those who attend the National Meeting include:

*       Prevention professionals, especially new practitioners (disciplines
can include health and wellness education, alcohol and other drug
prevention, student affairs, residence life, campus safety, law enforcement,
peer education and violence prevention)
*       College and university students, faculty, and staff
*       Community-based health and safety personnel (including prevention
and treatment providers, law enforcement, alcoholic beverage control,
hospitality interests, civic groups, and faith-based organizations)
*       Representatives from campus-community coalitions
*       Representatives from state, regional, and national organizations
concerned with alcohol, other drug, and violence issues on college campuses
and in their surrounding communities.

The National Meeting Planning Committee has just issued its "Call for
Proposals" for this year's conference.   This call is intended to attract
various professionals and students to submit proposals for workshops and/or
poster sessions related to this year's theme, "Deep in the Heart of
Prevention: Collaboration for Accountability and Effectiveness." Detailed
information about preparing and submitting a proposal, either electronically
or as a hard copy, is available at the National Meeting web site at:
http://www.edc.org/hec/natl/2003 Proposals can be submitted immediately and
will be accepted until Monday, May 19th, 2003.
