Health System Planned Outage Notification

Please Post Centrally in Your Department

Electricity Outage
Emergency Power Normal Power Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Emergency Generator Emergency Power Panel
All power will be affected during this outage. This outage is for a test of the emergency power system and other systems which are served by it.

BLDG: 1602 UVA Orthopedic Center Ivy RD.

We are planning on performing the final power failure test at IMMSK on July the 31st from 8AM until 3PM. The scope of this test will be the as the test we performed on March 27th of this year, we will be validating the corrections that we made to address issues discovered in the initial testing. I will be putting an outage into the Veoci system as well.

Similar to the previous test, we will be failing the main power feed coming into the building on Sunday Morning shortly after 8AM and will observe the generator start and the ATSs transfer power onto the emergency system. All changes that were made to systems will be observed and verified. Once we have verified the operation of all modifications to the e-power systems, we will then transfer power back to normal and observe the transfer. After the transfer back to normal power we will verify that all systems return to their normal state and stabilize. It is likely that this effort will not take the entirety of the planned duration, however we have accounted for some time to adjust settings or to accommodate any discrepancies that we may find during the testing.

During the Outage the following will occur in the building:
• Loss of all normal power circuits and equipment that is served by them, including radiography equipment and all PCs that are not served with individual UPS
• Loss of HVAC in all areas outside of the ORs/SPD/Prep-Recovery on the ground floor
• Limited lighting throughout the building, only emergency egress lighting will be functional
• During the power transfers, all lighting (with the exception of a few fixtures in the ORs) will go off line for up to 10 seconds – other transfers will occur between 10 and 90 seconds as everything is staged onto the generator
• Although elevators will remain functional, we asked that they not be used during the test
• Data Closets should remain functional and ride out the transfers on their individual UPS
